Presented by Louis Lipari, PharmD, BCPS, this program explores Factor XI and XIa inhibition as an emerging approach to anticoagulant therapy. The presentation examines the role of Factor XI in the coagulation cascade and the scientific rationale for potentially “uncoupling” thrombosis prevention from hemostasis.
The program reviews the mechanisms and development of several Factor XI/XIa inhibitors, including asundexian, milvexian, and abelacimab. Key Phase 2 and Phase 3 evidence—including AXIOMATIC-TKR, PACIFIC-AF, OCEANIC-AF, and OCEANIC-Stroke—is discussed alongside ongoing trials and the potential clinical roles of these agents in atrial fibrillation, ischemic stroke, and venous thromboembolism.
